BERKS COUNTY, Pa. (WHP) — One person was rescued from the front of a box truck after it reportedly crashed into the back of a tractor trailer in Berks County Friday.
Fire officials confirmed the crash happened just before noon on Route 222 near the Broadcasting Road exit in Wyomissing.
Crews arrived on scene to find one person trapped inside the box truck, who had to be extricated. Officials said they were able to free the driver after roughly 14 minutes.
According to Spring Township Police, a box truck rear-ended a tractor-trailer that was moving slowly in the right lane due to traffic congestion. The driver of the box truck had to be rescued by firefighters and he was taken to Reading Hospital for treatment of injuries. Catastrophic injuries to the driver’s leg resulted in amputation.
The Township of Spring Police Department is currently investigating the crash, with assistance from the Bern Township, Muhlenbert Township, Cumru Township, and Whomissing Borough Police Department.
The Spring Township Police Department is seeking assistance from the public; Spring Township police is urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident is urged to contact them.
